Rules and Code of Conduct
> AI Policy
We host this CTF as a learning opportunity. The competition should motivate you to learn. AI is an important tool in security work today. Banning it completely would hurt your learning. However, you must do the actual thinking. AI can answer your questions, but it must not decide what paths you explore. Solving challenges by letting an LLM do all/most of the work defeats the purpose of this CTF. Therefore, the following rules concerning AI usage are mandatory for all participants.
You must do the thinking. AI can help explain things, but it must not solve the challenge for you.
Allowed
- Use LLMs as an advanced search engine to explain concepts. For example, protocols, file formats, or gdb syntax.
- Use LLMs to generate helper code you fully understand. For example, short scripts, parsers, or regex.
- You must use AI in chat-only mode (usually, using a browser). Do not use agents.
Forbidden
- Do not enter challenge details, descriptions, or files into AI tools.
- Do not enter derived challenge information into AI tools. For example, disassembled functions or output of challenge binaries.
- Do not ask for a solution path. For example, do not ask for an attack plan or what you should try next.
- Do not interface AI tools with challenge instances or materials. The AI tool must not have access to any challenge files or infrastructure.
- Do not outsource the solve process to an AI. You must decide every step you take yourself.
- Do not use AI autocomplete features in your editor/IDE, like GitHub Copilot.
Enforcement
- We rely on the honor system. There is no screen recording or heavy surveillance.
- However, you must work and submit in the Rechnerhalle and stay until the end for prizes.
- Roaming organizers can see screens and ask you to explain your solution or to show your AI chat history at any time.
- Therefore, you must keep your chat history. Do not use throwaway chats or delete them during the event.
- Top-ranked teams will have to explain specific solves before receiving prizes.
- If you cannot explain how you got the flag, we consider this cheating and will instantly ban your team.
- Breaking any rule will lead to a ban for your team.
- Banned teams are not eligible for prizes and are hidden from the scoreboard.
